CCHS Student Honored at American Chemical Society Banquet
On Thursday, May 16th, at the American Chemical Society banquet, CCHS student Eian Duffield was in attendance along with his chemistry teacher, Melody Hubbard, and her husband Jason. Eian was there to be recognized for achieving the highest score on the American Chemical Society Olympiad test at Clay County High School. What Eian and Mrs. Hubbard did not know was that Eian would also be recognized for achieving the highest score in the region. Eian would beat out students from many area high schools including Herbert Hoover, George Washington, Charleston Catholic and many more. In achieving this honor, Eian was awarded a partial scholarship to WV State University, and Mrs. Hubbard was gifted two separate $500 scholarships from FlinnScience and Carolina Biological Supply.
Thursday night’s event was sponsored by WV State and The Chemours Company, a chemical company located in Belle, WV. Eian was presented the award by Dr. Michael Fultz, an organic chemist and provost at WVSU
Clay County Schools would like to congratulate Eian and Mrs. Hubbard on their achievements this school year.
