Allen Tanner - Principal

Hi Everyone! My name is Allen Tanner, and I am the current principal at Clay County High School. I am an active member of Nebo Baptist Church, and love spending time with my family.  I am married to Mrs. Tara Tanner, English teacher at CCHS, and we have been blessed with two beautiful little girls, Lacey and Hallie.  I enjoy watching sports, and singing and playing music.

I have the privilege of working with not only the greatest staff, but the greatest students in West Virginia!  My mission as a principal is to help students achieve and help make them successful in their life after high school. As a former classroom teacher, I understand the importance of good classroom instruction, and strive to make sure that all our students get just that!  I also believe that parent involvement is a major factor in student success, and cannot wait to work with you to help your child during their time as a Panther.

Angela Nichols - Assistant Principal

Hello, I am Angela Nichols, and I am a 2007 graduate of Clay High. I graduated from WVSU in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education, and I obtained my Masters in Educational Leadership from WVSU in 2018. I taught 8th grade West Virginia Studies for 10 years before moving to be an Assistant Principal in February 2022. I am excited to be at Clay High and help our high school students create the future they envision for themselves. I want to help empower students to be themselves, to support others in their endeavors, and to show everyone respect. I hope to impart my love of reading, arts and crafts, family, and nature to our students.

Robert Morris - CTE Director

From the Desk of the Career & Technical Center Director

This is not your Grandfather’s Vo-Tech…

Career and technical education (CTE) is an educational strategy for providing young people with the academic and technical knowledge and skills to pursue postsecondary training or higher education and enter a career field prepared for ongoing learning.  Clay County has replaced vocational education that consisted of low-level courses, job training, and single electives and replaced it with academically rigorous, integrated, and sequenced programs of study that align with and lead to postsecondary education and the workforce.   These programs provide students with opportunities to acquire the competencies required in today’s workplace—such as critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, innovation, teamwork, and communication—and to learn about different careers by experiencing work and workplaces.  Clay County CTE is no longer just about teaching students a narrow set of skills sufficient for entry-level jobs; it is about preparing students for careers.  Come see what we can do for your student.

Sabrina Corwell - Counselor

Sabrina Corwell is one of the two CCHS counselors. She believes it helps students with any kinds of needs. She believes the only obstacle within her job is that there isn't enough time during the day to help said students. Sabrina likes to believe that every day is something new and different and that it wasn't what she thought it would be. Her one thing she loves about this job is that she gets to help these students.
